I have a family member who would like to take a shuttle to the airport from a hotel along 400 - as far north as possible, say Windward Parkway. They live in Dawsonville.

We would greatly appreciate your adice.

Why not just take MARTA to the North Springs station? They can park there during their trip, and drive home.

I share your feelings about riding Marta, but this person is not travel savvy. She rarely leaves her small town. Sad, but true. We%26#39;re just trying to find an easy way for her to get to the airport.

Seriously, though, she just sits down on the only train available at North Springs, and stays on the same train until it dead ends and tells her to get off. That%26#39;s easier than trying to find the shuttle pick-up at the airport, which is a bit of a hike from baggage claim.

Palm Sunday Mass

We will be in Savannah this weekend and would like to attend Sunday mass at St. John Cathedral. Are all the morning masses the same? I read on a previous post for St. Patrick%26#39;s Day that the 8am was a quiet mass, the 10:30 a male voice and the later mass a female voice. Is this true of every Sunday, or just St. Patrick%26#39;s Day? We live in a very small rural town in Ohio and I would love for my sons to get to experience a truly amazing mass service in a beautiful cathedral. Also, are they all the palm service? At our church, only 1 service is the palm service. I looked at the cathedral website, but didn%26#39;t see the info listed.

On St. Pat%26#39;s there is only one mass - the 8am.

Every Sunday, including Palm Sunday and Easter, the schedule is 8am, 10am, 11:30am, and 1pm(Latin Rite).

8am - no music

10am - men%26#39;s choir

11:30am - woman%26#39;s choir

They also have a 5:30pm vigil every Saturday evening.

I would recommend getting there early especially if you decide to go to 10:00 or 11:30 mass - also being Palm Sunday it will be packed. They also do a Latin mass at 1:00pm - it is really neat I been to it a couple of times (not enough to remember anything, I just follow the leader).

Brew pubs/micro breweries

We were in Canada last year where 2 different pubs (linked with micro breweries) offered a sample of all their beers.

One offered 7 different samples in small glasses (each about a 6th of a pint) whilst the other had 9 different ones with a description of each one (you were even offered advice as to the order in which to drink them).

Do any of the brew pubs do that in Savannah?

And yes they do have a nice sampler selection and very knowledgeable people if you have questions about the different brews.

All their beer is brewed on site, behind big windows so if anything is going on, you can watch.

I agree on moon river, not much else going on in that area SE GA is kind of a beer waste land..

Some of the beer sites are showing a Hilton Head Brewpub over in HH which is not that far away either.

Also the historic district finally has a good beer pub, Distillary. Located at Liberty and Martin Luther King.

Moon River Brewing Company is located at 21 West Bay Street right across the street from the Hyatt.

The Distillery is also really good if you like beer they offer a sampler (I think one dark, one light/pale, and one mixed) and also many craft beers not available at other bars in Savannah.

Hotel help

Arriving on a Wednesday night, after 10pm. Needing a hotel for one night. Taking the CNN VIP tour the next morning at 8am. Any suggests on where to stay? I hate to spend more than $100 since we will only be sleeping there one night, not staying long, but don%26#39;t want to be in a rundown place either. Also need something fairly close to CNN also. Not asking much, am I? Thanks for the help!

If you only need 1 bed, I%26#39;d suggest you try Priceline for a 4* hotel downtown. The 4* options downtown will be within walking distance to the CNN Center. See www.biddingfortravel.com for how to use Priceline effectively.

If you don%26#39;t want to use Priceline, the Omni is in the CNN Center. There%26#39;s an Embassy suites across the street and a new Hilton Garden Inn next to that. All would be good choices.

I agree that Priceline is your best bet. Otherwise, you%26#39;re not likely to find anywhere under $100 in that area that isn%26#39;t a roach motel.

I have never used Priceline places, we are traveling the first week of September, so when should I start ';bidding';?

You can get lots of advice on biddingfortravel.com, which has tips for Priceline bidding. I know you don%26#39;t want to bid too early, but don%26#39;t want to wait too late, but don%26#39;t know what the exact window is. I would suggest watching prices in Hotwire too.

Tybee Island - Great Girl's Getaway!

My Mom, three sisters, and I (all over 50) take a vacation together each year. We come from the east coast, west coast, and northeast and each year we try to find a new beach spot on the east coast.

This year, although it%26#39;s not on the ocean, we decided to visit Savannah, GA. What a nice surprise to discover Tybee Island was only 15 minutes away. So, rather than stay in a hotel room in Savannah, we rented a condo on Tybee. After researching lodging on the Island, we rented Sandpiper #306 through Tybee Vacation Rentals (TVR). What a great choice - TVR was highly recommended by reviewers on TripAdvisor.com and they were right.

The 3-bedroom, 2-bath condo was oceanfront, spacious, clean, nicely decorated, and had everything we needed for a week%26#39;s stay. The staff at TVR were friendly and very responsive to any request.

We enjoyed the laid-back atmosphere on Tybee. We walked the beach every morning and evening; visited the local shops - some tacky-tourist, some nice (check out Seaside Sisters); ate at a couple of restaurants (delicious onion rings and RazzRitas at Fannies at the Beach, good pizza from Cousin Vinnie%26#39;s); and toured the local points of interest (forts and museums and a great old lighthouse).

Then, in a matter of minutes, we could drive to Savannah and stroll along River and Bay Streets in the afternoons. We visited beautiful Forsythe Park and had fun in the City Market. We%26#39;re all fans of Food Network, so we had to eat at Paula Deen%26#39;s Lady and Son Restaurant (good, traditional Southern buffet) and Uncle Bubba%26#39;s Oyster House (fabulous chargrilled oysters).

We didn%26#39;t eat out a lot, because we treasured spending time together in the kitchen of our condo as we prepared our meals. Then, later in the evenings, we sat around the table playing Yahtzee and Monopoly, sipping wine as we talked, laughed, and caught up on each other%26#39;s news.

What a great week with family! Tybee - we%26#39;ll be back!

What to see/do/eat on SSI?

My hubby and I are stopping at SSI for 3 days on our way home from a trip to Spring Training in 2 weeks (our first trip; we usually vacation on Hilton Head Island). We%26#39;re staying at the Saint Simons Inn at the Lighthouse. We are in our mid-50%26#39;s and plan to spend plenty of time walking the beach and riding bikes, but we%26#39;d like to spend a little time seeing the sights in the Saint Simons Island/Jekyll Island area. Any recommendations on what we must see? Any recommendations on where we should eat? Thanks!

fort fredricka, the john wesley oak, and the site of the battle of bloody march are site seeing destinations, for eats, you are next door to southern soul bbq, barbara jeans crab cakes and the 4th of may are in the nearby village too. for finer dining you are steps from the georgia sea grill and jmac%26#39;s. enjoy your trip.

What to see/do/eat on SSI?

St Simons Island is very different from Hilton Head in the way of our daily life. The pace is much slower here. We enjoy nature, meeting people and having an enjoyable meal and drink. There are places to listen to live music like the village pub as well as good restaurants like The Georgia Sea Grill, Delaneys and Nazzaro%26#39;s for dinner. Barbara Jeans for lunch. But there are also the galleries and the historic sites. One not mentioned is Christ Church near Fort Federica, and the Wesley Monument. This is towards the north end of the island and very beautiful and worth exploring. The beaches are found on the east side of the island ';East Beach'; with an old Coast Guard Station that is now a Museum. Rent bikes, shop and just find new friends. You will love it here.

My favorite thing to do when I go to SSI is to eat!!!

You MUST make reservations at the Georgia Sea Grille, it%26#39;s a must! Upscale, seafood dining.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. We enjoyed our stay at SSI. Our only disappointment was the beach; even at low tide, the East Beach was small and crowded. Since the beach is probably the #1 ';requirement'; for our travels, we were disappointed. But even so, we%26#39;d like to make a return trip to SSI at some point. Again, thanks for the advice! ;-)

The Varsity does have the best chili dogs AND onion rings. There is no shortage of oil there! My husband HAS to go to the Varsity for chili dogs when we are in Atlanta. I have tried all 4 of BBQman%26#39;s top 4 picks and totally agree with him. But, it was highly upsetting when the Varsity did away with their small printed napkins. How could they? The plain white square institutional napkins are just not the same.

The Shady Lane in Tifton GA has excellent chili dogs. We have to stop there whenever we%26#39;re in the area as my husband thinks they are the best he%26#39;s ever tasted. It%26#39;s a family owned business and is just a small drive-thru but it sure does get packed at lunch time and on Saturdays.
