Beach Trip for N. Fla, SC or GA - Need Ideas!

:::Cross Posted to FL, SC and GA:::

I am trying to plan a rather last minute beach trip for 5/9 through 5/13. I%26#39;m looking for something within about 6 or so hours drive time from Atlanta. We already stayed at the Anderson Beach Club at Myrtle Beach in March and had a wonderful time; however, we would like something a little more laid back and less plush if it keeps the price down. Trying to keep accomodations at about $100 a night or less. Mostly we just want to relax on the beach and enjoy one last mental break before the crazy summer starts up.

I%26#39;ve included my Myrtle Beach list to give a better example of the zen we are seeking. Looking forward to all your suggestions!

Thanks,

Mary

It really depends on where you have already been, and what kind of experience you are seeking (couldnt really tell from you link). My opinions:

The beaches of florida%26#39;s gulf coast are the best that are within a 5-6 hour drive from Atlanta. I hear Gulf Shores AL is nice, but I have not been yet. All of the beaches along the eastern seaboard of the US from Myrtle Beach, SC to about Coccoa Beach Florida are essentially the same (beach and ocean). Hilton Head offers golf and many hotels that are on the internet discount sites, whereas Savannah/Tybee are high priced -- but Savannah is far more interesting than most of the east coast destinations. St Augustine is rich in pre-colonial and colonial history if you are into that. Jacksonville and Daytona have little to offer other than the beach and ocean.

I would opt for something different, like one of the barrier islands -- Cumberland, St Simons, Dafuskie, Jekyl -- if you can find reasonable accomodations
