Hello we are planning a visit to Savannah for the first time in August and I got a great rate for a suite at the new Residence inn on Charlton st but since I haven`t been to Savannah I`m not sure if this is the best hotel as far as being close enough to the historic district or should we stick to our original choice at the Hilton as it seems to be right in the middle of everything on Bay street and the price is the same. I really like the idea of having extra room but if it`s too far then I`ll just stick with the Hilton. Thank you for your help!
Never been to Savannah wondering about specific hotel
I would prefer the Hilton location....but then, I hate walking anymore than I have to.
The New Residence Inn is really only a few blocks more. It%26#39;s in the Historic District, but a little removed from restaurants, bars, etc. Not the best walk after dark.

The Hilton is not on Bay Street, it is on Liberty, several blocks south of Bay.
The Residence Inn is a little out of the way, so if it is the Hilton or, if you meant the Hyatt, and the price is in fact the same, I would take the more central hotel.
If the extra space is important, you are only talking about a few blocks. If you walked down Bull, then west on Charlton, I would not let the safety issue be a factor. MLK, Tattnal, tend to be deserted late so a little more possibility of being accosted.
Betterflies may be thinking of the Hilton Garden Inn on West Bay, not the good old Desoto Hilton we know on Bull %26amp; Liberty.
That said, the new Avia boutique hotel at Ellis Sq. gets high marks in the May issue of Travel and Leisure.
The new Residence Inn is not in a great area, esp. after dark. The Parker%26#39;s gas station is slap up against the new row of hotels by the Railroad Museum, with too many weird types hanging around at all hours. It%26#39;s a difficult walk to the main sites in downtown Savannah. I%26#39;d stick with either the Hilton Garden or Avia.
We just got back from our latest trip and stayed at the Mulberry Inn on Bay Street and had a junior suite with a ton of room for two people. Its very close to the Pirate House restaurant which means its near the far end of the District but still quite close to everything. We do love to walk so this place adds maybe an extra block or two but to us this was no big deal. I highly recommend it.
The location of the Bay St. Hilton is much better than the Residence. For a suite on Bay St., check out the Inn at Ellis Square on Bay St. Make sure you are getting a suite and not a regular room which is in a separate building. In the past, I%26#39;ve gotten the best rate by calling the hotel directly. It%26#39;s a great location on Bay St.
