Driving through on a Saturday

Hello,

We are driving from Birmingham to Savannah next Saturday afternoon and are asking for advice on the easiest route...around or through Atlanta? We are not familiar with the area and have never driven through before, so any ';heads up'; on construction delays and/or advice to help us is greatly appreciated. We ALWAYS get the best from TA. Thanks in advance.

You shouldn%26#39;t have any problems on a Saturday afternoon with either route, but if you%26#39;re not planning on stopping anywhere in downtown Atlanta there%26#39;s really no reason not to take I-285 around to I-75. You can get current information on any and all road construction projects, traffic or accident delays, etc., from the Georgia DOT%26#39;s Georgia Navigator site (http://www.georgia-navigator.com) or by dialing 511 from anywhere in Georgia.

Every few months I drive from TN to FL and back. I travel on the weekend, go straight through, and I still get messed up between I-75 and I-85, coming and going. I spend more time trying to get back on track than I would if I just took the bypass. I can%26#39;t even imagine what it would be like on a weekday! And the strident voice on the GPS just adds to my distress. I guess I am ';driving-deficient'; so I%26#39;m giving up and taking the by-pass from now on.
