Plantation visit

We will be in Charleston and Savannah (then driving down to Florida) in August, and want to visit a plantation home. We are interested in the history, something about the slaves conditions and somewhere scenic. Boone Hall looks like it possibly fits the bill, Middleton Place less so. Any comments or other suggestions?

Plantation visit

There are no plantation homes open for visit in the Savannah area. Charleston is the closest we have. You may want to post this on the Charleston forum as the readers on it will be more familiar with the differences in Middleton and Boone.

Plantation visit

I have been to Magnolia Plantation, near Charleston, on the way to Savannah. It is not as much emphasis on the slave life as the gardens, really amazing, acres and acres of theme gardens and just beautiful. I think they have a website.

That is the only one I know anything about.

I hope you are aware of the temperatures here in August. Be prepared for very intense heat and humidity.

Thanks for the tips. I had already posted this on the Charleston Forum and have some replies. My wife and I have visited plantation homes elsewhere in the South, so this one is for our kids.

I know it will be hot and humid, but it will compare well with a London summer, and we have spent time in South East Asia so we will acclimatise.
