savannah vs charleston

If we have to choose one city, would you suggest Savannah first or Charleston? We will only have a few days to visit at the end of April and want to see one of the two cities.

There are tons of similar posts on this so by all means, search around here. Its all relative but I vote for Savannah- cless expensive, much, much better access to beaches, less awareness of highways so I feel like I%26#39;m away from typical city conjestion in Savannah over Charleston.

Absolutely Savannnah, not only is Charleston less beautiful and less walking friendly, it is in the wrong state!!!

No bias here, really.

I live in Charleston and travel to Savannah at least once a month for work. Savannah is typically a little less expensive, but no more beautiful or walkable in my opinion. Savannah has many more affordable restaurant options with a great amount of upscale eateries as well. The main difference to me between the two cities is that Savannah seems even more laid back to me than Charleston. My vote would be to take more time off and do both...Southern Living readers in the 2009 readers choice awards voted Charleston the Best Southern City and Savannah number 2...you really can%26#39;t miss with either of these jewels in the Spring...or any other time of the year for that matter.

Karrieb - I had to re-read recent posts due to your reference to beaches. Might you be confusing Savannah with some other city or am I way off-base? Tybee is 18 miles from the city whereas Folly and Sullivan%26#39;s (Charleston%26#39;s two closest beaches) are 11 and 8.8 miles, respectively, from Charleston%26#39;s historic district. (ref: Mapquest) There is plenty of free parking in both places and they%26#39;re really fun places, besides, with great restaurants and other points of interest.

I just felt the need to clarify as there might be others who take your comparison as fact.
