Just returned from my son%26#39;s Turning Blue and graduation ceremony at Fort Benning on 3/1/07 and 3/2/07. Excellent, uplifting events. If you have an opportunity to attend, please do, the soldiers really appreciated seeing their families. For the ITB, the Turning Blue ceremony was on Thursday and graduation was on Friday. A family member can ';pin'; the blue cord on their soldier at the Turning Blue. There are vendors on site selling photos, videos and books. Our son%26#39;s group was given a day pass on Thursday. On Friday after graduation he received a three day pass, directing him back to base tonight to be shipped out to his next station. We stayed at the LaQuinta Inn on Warm Springs Road and for the price it wasn%26#39;t too bad. We chose not to stay at the LaQuinta on Macon because we had concerns about the area. Our hotel was located close to where we needed to be and also had some decent restaurants nearby. Pleasant friendly staff, too. It needs a little updating, but it%26#39;s okay. I%26#39;d ask for a room at a hallway end though, just to minimize the noise, it gets pretty loud when the hotel is full. Other comments: Get a good City map and do some research. We ended up lost a lot more than we wanted to be. Be sure and get specific directions for the ceremony locations and be there early, parking is limited on base.
Fort Benning graduation - well worth it

Fort Benning graduation - well worth it
Just wanted to add a note. Also just returned from son%26#39;s graduation. Make sure that everyone in your vehicle over the age of 16 has photo ID and make sure you have letter from commander about graduatuon. This makes getting on base so much easier. I forgot my ID in motel room and was not allowed on base when we were going in to pick up our soldier. Had to wait at visitor center while my husband went in! Also for getting around in town and on base, we cheated, Garmin helped us!!!
I agrre that the ceremonies went well. I wish I had stayed further north around exit 10. I stayed at the Comfirt Inn on Victory Dr. and it was marginal, noisy and in disrepair.
I am looking to get the email or phone number of the group in the pink shirts that did the video tapping. We missed getting his card.
Thanx

I ordered a video of the 3/2/07 ceremony
We are new Army parents. Have only got 2 30 second phone calls. When does that stop? My youngest son is extremely upset and wants to talk to his big brother for just a little bit. I guess that is not allowed. Did you attend basic grad, we are not sure of everything everyone is talking about. He will come home and finish his last semister at college so he will not do AIT at this time.
This site is helpful if you can find your way around. My son left on May 19 and just started basic this past Friday. When will pix be available on the webiste? Not sure if you can answer all of the questions but any news would be helpful.
Thanks,
New parents to the ARMY
The phone calls are short and very infrequent in the early phase of Basic. Please don%26#39;t worry! I felt like no news was good news (in other words - no injuries).
Unfortunately, it takes a while for the photos to get posted. When my son was there this time last year, there were plenty of pictures of his company, but none of him! Still, it was good to see the photos and see what they were doing.
Feel free to send me a private message if you would like more information.

Does anyone have the website for fort benning%26#39;s base? How/Where do I access pictures online?
Is there lodging on base?
Any replies would be so helpful.

I have a few questions about Graduation at Ft Benning if anyone is still watching this forum yet.
Our son will Graduate May 22 and we are checking out flights now. He will be coming home with us for a week or so after Graduation. We want to return to MN the same day. Does anyone have an idea how long the Ceremonies last? I understand Graduation starts at 9 am. We will have to drive from Columbus to Atlanta%26#39;s ariport also.
Thank you for all the great info here!
Main thing...DO NOT STAY ON VICTORY DRIVE!!! It is close to Ft. Benning but oh so scary! Tons of strip clubs, pay by the hour motels, tattoo parlors, etc. The Macon Road area is fine IMO, although I%26#39;m a local. If you%26#39;re flying into the Columbus airport you may like a hotel on Airport Thruway.
