Suggestions for a stop over place en route to Atlanta?

Hi everyone,

We are visiting Savannah in June and will be using buses and cabs to get around (we don;t drive).

We need to get from Savannah to Atlanta and were hoping to Greyhound it, with a stop somewhere nice for a few days to break up the journey.

My question is, where is a nice small-town feel/maybe pretty place to stop where we could get the Greyhound and stay for a day or two in between Savannah and Atlanta? Any and all suggestions gratefully received!

Thank you,

Annie %26amp; Stu

There really isn%26#39;t anyplace like that between Savannah and Atlanta. Greyhound is not the best way to travel between the two cities. Think about flying instead. It%26#39;s only a short hop.

You don%26#39;t want to travel from Savannah to Atlanta via Greyhound or ANY bus service. Delta Airlines has several flights from Savh. to Atlanta on a daily basis. Trust us here in Savannah, you don%26#39;t want to step foot on a bus.

A flight takes under one hour....there%26#39;s not much to see along the way, even if someone drove you...it%26#39;s rural farm country from Savannah to Macon (approx. 165 miles) and from Macon to Atlanta, the interstate highway is a clogged artery of gas stations, fast food outlets and traffic tie-ups.

Macon would be the only stop worth visiting I think.

It is a cute little town with lots of flowering cherry trees, not much else there that I know of, and I have looked into it some.

They have a nice little downtown area with some little square type areas and a music museum of some sort.

It is probably 2/3 of the way to Atlanta but if you want to stop over, that is the only place I know of to do it.

Wow.. doesn;t sound too positive overall.. I wish we could change our flights but we%26#39;re stuck with it for the moment as we are going on from Atlanta to Fort Lauderdale.

Flying between Savannah and Atlanta isn%26#39;t really an option unfortunately as our travel budget is already stretched. I am wondering if its safe to use the greyhound? I%26#39;ve taken it through Colorado and my husband has taken it through New Orleans before, would it be any worse than that?

Macon *was* on our list but it sounds like thats to be missed as well.

Thanks for your advice :)

Hmm I had a look on Delta%26#39;s website and to fly between the two (roughly an hours flight) is about $180.. that seems like a lot for a one way flight, especially since they have so many flights daily.

I am thinking I have to take the Greyhound now!

Airfares between SAV and ATL this June are between $108 and $243 round-trip depending on which day you fly. Greyhound fares are as low as $29, depending on how far in advance you purchase. At $108, it%26#39;d be worth it to me to avoid Greyhound. At over $200, it%26#39;d be tough for me to justify flying vs. the bus, but then for me I%26#39;d just end up driving.

If you%26#39;ve taken Greyhound before in the States, especially around New Orleans, then you pretty much know what to expect. At least it%26#39;s a fairly short (~4-5 hours) trip with only a couple of stops (Dublin and Macon) on the way.

It%26#39;s just that it%26#39;s a dull boring trip from Macon to Savannah. The fellow passengers may be the most interesting thing on the trip. You get to look at trees and that%26#39;s about it. From Atlanta to Macon, the traffic can be interesting, more than interesting at certain time...it can be unbelievable.

You really don%26#39;t want to break the trip by stopping in Macon. It%26#39;s nice to visit, if you were in your own car so you could drive around, but not as a stop on the way to Savannah.

You guys have been fantastically helpful, thank you so much! I think we%26#39;re going to skip Macon and just get the bus (I know, I know!) directly to Atlanta from Savannah.

We didn%26#39;t think there was a whole heap to interest us in Atlanta, but have since found out there is a Six Flags there and although we aren%26#39;t that young, we%26#39;re young at heart :)

Thanks once again for your lovely advice!

Try to take time to let us know how the bus trip was. Sometimes these things can surprise a person and we like to keep up on any improvement.

Have yourselves a great time.
