The first of April, My husband and I took our Lab and little mixed breed for a 2 night romantic getaway at Moonshadow Cabin, managed by Sliding Rock Cabins. Let me tell you, it was a lovely cabin with every pet friendly amenity you can imagine: dog bed, toys, homemade treats, a gated deck and a fenced in yard (tho%26#39; the latter was on a steep slope and hard to get to for clean up since you had to crouch low under the deck). Our pups had a great time exploring and meeting other dogs visiting nearby cabins. The added plus of having them be able to stay for free cannot be overlooked.
The cabin itself was spotless, tastefully decorated, and had extra nice touches such as soft rolled up blankets by the fire, custom toiletries in the bathroom and coffee beans w/a hand-held grinder. The view on the deck of the valley during the day and the stars from the hot tub at night was beautifully soothing.
We ate in most of the time but there are some local chain restaurants in nearby East Ellijay and some good local establishments in Blue Ridge. Also,Toccoa Riverside Restaurant is a great place to get some excellent local trout and enjoy a sunset on the river.
Overall, we would recommend Sliding Rock Cabins. However, we did run into one glitch that made our arrival unpleasant. We were traveling from Nashville but SRC sent us directions from Atlanta. No problem, we thought, we will just use our own resources. Please be aware that Mapquest, AAA, Google and other net based directions are all wrong (we did not have a GPS but have used one previously and imagine in this type of ';back country'; that that would have been in error as well. Even the local directions of how to find the check-in office/key pick-up were wrong. The 800 number listed will never provide a human answering it (we had made a few calls prior to leaving our home as well as obviously trying to call SRC en route). However, once we finally got someone to answer the local number, they were able to guide us successfully. Our beginning would have gone so much more smoothly if the confirmation papers they sent us had not stated that the directions given had to be followed exactly (since they noted as well that other locator methods would be incorrect).....or if their directions had been correct.
Still, now that we know our way, we will return to the area whenever we are looking for relaxing getaway in the mountains.
