Hi Moms.
I am working on a scheduled trip from California to Fort Benning. When I asked my graduating Private if he wanted me to add an additional seat to our flight back home, he said ';yes.';
Now I am getting input the Army would be paying for his flight.
I would like him to be able to return to CA. with his 2 brothers and I.
Does anyone know who I might contact about this, or have any concrete information?

First your soldier better find out how much, if any, leave he will have after graduating from Basic. When my son graduated from Basic Training (back in 2002), he was only given 1 afternoon of leave before having to depart Ft. Jackson the next morning to report to his next duty station for his AIT (Advanced Individual Training).
I do not know of any Army program that provides for a soldier%26#39;s travel on leave EXCEPT when a deployed soldier is traveling from a combat zone for his R%26amp;R (rest %26amp; recuperation leave). My son spent 6 years in the Army %26amp; my dad spent 30 years in the Army; this is the basis of my knowledge. The Army WILL provide his travel to his next duty station after graduation from Basic Training. Most airlines allow active duty military personnel to travel at a greatly reduced rate; however, this is generally on a standby basis.

Hi! We are from OC CALIF. I heard the army does not pay for their trip back home after graduation. I%26#39;m still trying to book our flight. I%26#39;m just not sure what time graduation is over! Do u have this info? My son graduates 5/22/09...Any good hotels you know of??

Do not buy any tickets without consulting someone who works on the base:
1. As stated previously, they may only have a few hours of ';leave';, and they may not be permitted to leave the state.
2. You assume your son will graduate on graduation day; that is not always the case. They could get sick and miss several days that they cant make up. They could twist an ankle during the testing week, and not be physically able to pass the required test. They could flunk out for not passing a written test.
So be very careful before you book non-refundable travel.
GREAT!! Now I%26#39;m really confused! I was told he gets 10 days in CA then 10 days in Ohio then back to CALIF. for a day or 2 then from there it%26#39;s Germany. This is what my son told me. He graduates 5/22/09. So when do u recommend I book? Thanks for the info!
