We are staying in Atlantic Station for a long week-end. We have cars and we know our way around. What we don%26#39;t know is a good Italian restaurant. I have looked at the restaurant reviews here and have not been very thrilled. So what do you recommend for real Italian ambiance, quality and service (ignoring price)?
italian restaurant in mid-town
Sotto Sotto in Inman Park, Ecco in midtown, Veni Vidi Vici in midtown.
italian restaurant in mid-town
Ecco in midtown is absolutely fantastic, and would be my first choice. It%26#39;s a little on the trendier side. For something more traditional, you just cannot beat Veni Vidi Vici, which is always one of the top restaurants in the city. At Atlantic Station, you will have Dolce, which is surprisingly good given that it is super trendy and a celebrity-owned chain.

As an aside, while restaurant suggestions in the forums are usually helpful, I would never rely on the restaurant reviews on Tripadvisor. I have no idea who writes them, or what their interest is, but have never found the ranking to accurately reflect a city%26#39;s dining scene. You%26#39;d be much better served to look at Zagat%26#39;s or Frommers, or that city%26#39;s local newspaper%26#39;s reviews. In atlanta, look at ajc.com, atlantacuisine.com or creativeloafing.com for the most reliable restaurant reviews.
I agree that that the TA restaurant reviews are not helpful and are sometimes downright useless.
I%26#39;ve read some reviews in which the reviewer did not even *eat* at the restaurant but gave it a low score because it was ';too fancy'; or ';too expensive'; or ';not my kind of food.'; Yeah, that%26#39;s helpful to the people who might want to eat there. [/sarcasm]
One reviewer blasted Floataway Cafe (a restaurant near me) because it was too far from downtown and they should have been warned! Yeah, it%26#39;s the restaurant%26#39;s fault you can%26#39;t read a map, dude.
Try www.atlanta.citysearch.com for their editorial reviews. They have the same problem mentioned above with user reviews, but the editor%26#39;s choices have been spot on for me. There%26#39;s been one exception and that was Floataway Cafe but not because of distance from downtown. ;-)
Many thanks to all. This looks like very helpful information.
Road
We will do the Antica Posta in Buckhead, and report back on it.
Sotto Sotto (Fritti%26#39;s) (Highlands) or Pricci (Buckhead)
I%26#39;ll second all the recommendations on Ecco and Sotto Sotto. There%26#39;s a new neopolitan pizza place called Varasano%26#39;s on Peachtree St. that was pretty good as well, and that%26#39;s just north of the Midtown area.
Some I%26#39;ve heard great things about and been meaning to try are: Nino%26#39;s (on Cheshire Bridge) and La Tavola (Virginia-Highlands).
We did go to Antica Posta - it was wonderful, and fairly expensive ($240 for two, all inclusive). I have created a review.
Try Il Localina http://www.localino.info/
My family loves it and always want to go there when they come in town from NY.
