Moving to Atlanta, Please Help.

I just got a new job and am moving from Dallas to Atlanta. I know nothing about Atlanta but i know what I want. I need an apartment that is in a young, fun area that has close access to bars, clubs, and restaurants. Safety is an issu, also safety.

If anyone could help that would be really great.

Thanks,

JRB

TA usually shuts down threads that have to do with moving, but I%26#39;ll offer my insight while I can. If I were you I would look at leasing a condo in midtown. A lot of the mid- and high-rise buildings have units for lease right now because their owners have had trouble selling them. The buildings that come to mind are Metropolis, Spire, Aqua, Tuscany, Mayfair but I%26#39;m sure there are others. Check creativeloafing.com or craigslist for listings.

A great website to ask questions and get this insight:

Ditto about City Data; that%26#39;s a great site to get information on relocation.

Welcome to the ATL! BTW, is safety an issue? : ) (I couldn%26#39;t resist!) Midtown sounds like a perfect fit for you. Congratulations on the new job and all the best!

Agree Midtown is a good area, but try to stay between 17th and 10th streets, as that area is most dense and safe. Piedmont Park area of Midtown is nice. The 2 most walkable fun areas of town are: Virginia Highlands and Decatur (Decatur is a little more tucked in, so commute will be a little longer, but on the weekends, there%26#39;s no reason to leave - all the restaurants, bars you need).

The Atlanta Not for Tourists book might come in handy for you if you are looking to live inside the Perimeter (inside of 285). My disclaimer is that I haven%26#39;t used the Atlanta version, but the NYC version is the best thing out there.

Ditto on the NYC Not for Tourists book. I was in Midtown Manhattan from Monday to Thursday nearly every week from May to October last year, and it was a godsend.

I%26#39;ve browsed the Atlanta version, and it looks pretty good, but it%26#39;s hard to know how useful it is on a daily basis until you actually live with it for a while.
