My adult daughter and I will be heading to Savannah for a long weekend on May 15th (Friday AM til Sunday evening). It%26#39;s our first time in the city and we%26#39;ll be staying at The Mansion on Forsyth Park where we%26#39;ll take a Saturday AM cooking class together. We%26#39;d love suggestions for what to see and do the rest of the time we%26#39;re there, including fun and interesting places to eat. We%26#39;d love to know of things to do/places to eat that we might not discover on our own.
We will not have a car. We always get our BEST advice from Trip Advisor!
Savannah for a long weekend
Be sure to take a trolley tour. I%26#39;d suggest using Oglethorpe tours, they%26#39;re inexpensive ($10) and they provide shuttles as well as their trolleys that you can use for the rest of the day. We did a ton of walking, but it reached a point when we just wanted to get to a site on the other side of the Historic District and it was really convenient. With the other companies you have to hope the later trolleys would have room for you...Oglethrope will send a shuttle just for you if you call. Also, be sure to go down to the Riverwalk. It%26#39;s great fun. But be warned the candy stores are VERY expensive. (but delicious, too) have fun!
Savannah for a long weekend
The Mansion face Forsyth Park. Be sure to wander around the park some, it is beautiful.
If you were to walk over to the center of the park and take a right, you can take the nicest walk in town, straight to the river, down Bull Street.
Come back to the hotel via Abercorn, which is directly behind the hotel, or Barnard which is a block the other side of the park. Each is a whole new walk with new squares, houses and buisnesses.
Try to grab a lunch or early dinner from Angels%26#39; bbq also a drink at Vic%26#39;s on the river, standing out on their balcony is really nice, overlooking River Street and the Savannah river.
Thanks for the great ideas! Any other thoughts on places to eat the other nights we%26#39;re there? I see you are from Savannah so probably know places we might not discover in a guidebook.
If you arrive before 11am on Friday morning try eating at Mrs. Wilkes%26#39; Dining Room. The restaurant is only open Monday through Friday 11am to 2pm. It is located at 107 Jones Street. It is great way to meet many people from different backgrounds, and eat great food.
