Thanks...

HOw much walking do you want to do? You can always fit in a trolley tour at the least, otherwise, you can walk forever around the 20 plus squares in the historic district. Tons of places to eat, the Telfair art complex (3 buildings, 2 of which are historic sites) is great, go to Broughton street or River St for shopping,, boat rides along the river, the sky is the limit. Scan this site for any of these ideas to get ideas on how to approach each one.

Be sure to stroll around River Street a little also if not a trolley tour, at least walk down Bull street from Bay St to Forsyth Park then back downtown on Abercorn or Barnard.

Here is a very basic map:

Hello...I am writing this from Savannah. My husband and I have been here 3 days with 1 to go. If you will be here a complete day, we suggest a nice but quick breakfast (our hotel offers a free continental) which will suffice while you go on The Oglethorpe Tour. It costs $10, the least expensive AND you can get off and on all day for free. It gives an overview of most the ';must sees'; in Savannah. It takes about 90 minutes and goes fast. After that, get a nice SMAll lunch so you can then walk to those sites you have whizzed by and want to see closer. Save the big meal for dinner. The food is great and so delicious you could eat, and eat, and eat..hence my warning to not eat heavily during the day. Definitely have an ice cream at Savannah Candy Kitchen in City Market (I recommend the caramel). Nice lunch at Leopold%26#39;s. Lady and Sons buffet is tasty but you need a nap afterwards. The walking tours in our opinion, are expensive for what you receive. We did the ';Midnight...Good and Evil'; and basically could have found the sites myself. The few tidbits offered that were ';newsy'; were not worth the time. If you do have extra time OR on the way home, do sit a while in a park or square or two, stroll through a cemetery to read the historic grave markers, and do visit Fort Pulaski..a little ways out of town. We love it here and plan to visit again! Also, ALL the places of worship are welcoming and the Catholic Cathedral is majestic. Enjoy!

The best ice cream in Savannah is made by hand at Leopold%26#39;s. Take it from a local and an ice cream aficianado. Buy pralines at the Candy Kitchen, not mass-made ice cream.

Try to see Bonaventure... its worthe the short drive out of town! I really loved strolling around- it is beautiful and serene. Just bring bug spray!

Thank all for your suggestions:)

We had lunch at Leopold%26#39;s but were too full for ice that theirs is superior;but having said that, the ice cream we did have was very, very good. We did enjoy their bear claws and caramel apples. pralines...too sweet for us. I promise to have Leopold%26#39;s ice cream when we return.

Loved your beautiful city!
